Amanda and I have started shopping around for a new vehicle. Things are definitely at the early stages, but ALS forces us to pose some uncomfortable questions as part of the search.
We are forced to project how my symptoms will progress. What vehicle is suited to the figurative journey I face? Will the vehicle be suitable for the hardware I will use, like a wheelchair? Headroom? Clearance? Ramp? Is there room for the girls?
This all crosses our mind before we've even looked at our budget.
One of the many challenges with ALS is the preparation and planning required to stay a step ahead of your needs. I feel like Amanda and I have done well in this regard, but it's not like ALS gives you time to sit back and bask in the glory of a job well done!
Here's hoping for an easy vehicle search. Does such a thing exist?
If it does, you two will find it.

ReplyDeleteTony,
ReplyDeleteCheck out the current article in Motortrend: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/minivans-vans/1307_chrysler_honda_toyota_mobility_vans/viewall.html#ixzz2YwoMaTmi.
Take a look at A.L.T.F.A. (http://www.atlfa.org/) for state secured funding.
We currently own a adapted Honda Odyssey. Previously, we had a adapted Chrysler Town and Country, and prior to that, my husband only bought adapted Dodge Grand Caravans.
I also have some "first person" articles about adapted vehicles. Please let me know if I can help in anyway.
Tony,
ReplyDeleteMy dad said he has a great guy who knows all the ins and outs. I have his contact information and will be happy to share it with you. He may also be familiar with other programs to assist with funding. I've already put a bug in my dad's ear in case he gets a good trade-in, but let me know if there's a certain model you prefer so he can put some more feelers out with other dealers he knows.
I'm happy to help. Just a phone call away!
