Time Out

A blog post is long overdue. It's been more than two weeks since my last post.

Three things have kept me from posting:
1. We had a Conway family trip to Washington DC a week ago.
2. I seem to nap throughout the day to recover from number one.
3. The World Cup is on.

I'm genuinely excited to write about the DC trip. But it'll take a few quiet days to pull together. In the meantime, I've been enthralled by this World Cup; diving and feinting seems to have taken a back seat compared to previous World Cups. It's been nice to see glimpses of the beautiful game. Admittedly I haven't seen every game, but it's genuinely been the most exciting event I can remember for some time.

The girls are home now for the summer. We faced difficult decisions about how the girls should spend their summer. We want to keep them engaged and entertained, but that often means activities and camps away from home. Of course, we face a tough challenge in getting the balance right so that we can spend time together as a family.

ALS gives me no guarantee that I'll have another summer with them.

  3. I promised myself that I would stop watching at the first blatant dive, which turned out to be about 40 mins into the opening match! Luckily I binned the idea because there have been some crackers. Come on Costa Rica!

  4. This World Cup has really got in the way of everything.

Thank goodness it's a good one.

I found these sports quotes on a site :-

New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season:"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first

Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins: "He treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings."

This one's not really a Sports Joke but it will do:-

An old man and his wife have gone to bed. After laying there a few minutes the old man farts and says,"Seven Points." His wife rolls over and says, "What in the world was that?" The old man replied, "It's fart football!" A few minutes later the wife lets one go and says - "Touchdown, tie score!" After about five minutes the old man farts again and says - "Touchdown, I'm ahead 14 to 7!" Not to be out done the wife rips another one and says, - "Touchdown, tie score!" Five seconds go by and she lets out a squeaker and says - "Fieldgoal, I lead 17 to 14!" Now the pressures on and the old man refuses to get beat by a woman so he strains real hard but to no avail. Realizing a defeat is totally unacceptable he gives it everything he has but instead of farting he poops the bed. The wife looks and says, "What the heck was that?" The old man replied, "Half-time, Switch sides!"
